Job Stimulus Packages are Running out!

Next week the job stimulus package that has provided thousands with jobs is going to run out. Many are worried but are hopeful that an extension on the package will keep these jobs for a while longer.

The link below is to the NY Times article speaking about this issue. The extension of the bill will keep government employees working but will it be too much of a debt on the country? It asks for over a billion dollars to be spent on keeping these people employed. With an already enormous deficit on the country it seems this would be only putting us further into a hole.

Illegal Immigrant Students Working Hard to Stay in the country.

The United We Dream coalition is taking action all over the country. They are made up of Illegal Immigrants who have attended school for years and are currently faced with the possibility of having to leave are not ready to go without a fight.

Students in Florida demonstrated their support for a local politician attempting to keep these students here. The students went down to the beach and formed messages in the sand with their bodies. The picture from the article below shows the students in the formation "Dream."

It's not only Florida faced with issues of illegal immigration it's happening all over the country. Student's right here in Boston are fighting to stay in the country. My personal belief is that at this point these student's should have the ability to gain citizenship; on the basis that they get absolutely no government help and must prosper on their own. It's no ones job to ensure a good life for these people, and if they want to enter the country improperly then it is up to them to work hard and expect nothing in return.

Culture

Marijuana is winning over California and it's not helping our neighbors. The recent article in the NY Times talking about California's union in support of the legalization of marijuana is going to pose some big problems with our neighbor Mexico.

What many do not understand is in this modern society every day becomes more and more globalized. Actions on the home front often result in major problems for other countries. Mexico is currently struggling with a domestic war on drugs, and the actions of Americans are giving reason for the drug lords to fight back.

In my opinion legalizing marijuana is something that should have been done years ago. It would offer more jobs, less money lost in black market transactions, and would significantly decrease crime. Prohibition has got to stop. Unfortunately we must take into consideration that our actions have direct effects to the rest of the world and we must pay attention to Mexico and it's war on drugs.
